with amateur radio digital satellite communication, carrier frequencies around 435 MHz are usual (see the tables of satellite operating modes).

The signals are FSK modulated, i.e. there is roughly speaking one of two adjacent frequencies transmitted.

The distance of the frequencies is typically 10-50 kHz.

With a FM receiver you get a digital signal, which is specially encoded to exploit the existing channel properties.

The data protocol is always Packet-Radio (AX.25), so you can decode it with any TNC.
